About Us!

Southern States Rescued Rottweilers is an organization devoted to saving Rottweilers in the Southern States. We currently encompass 11 states throughout the South - Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Northern Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and The Virginia Peninsula. Our mission is to rescue and rehome Rottweilers within these states. Many of the dogs we save have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. We bring these dogs into our homes as we try to find new and permanent ones for them. Most of the Rotties we save come from shelters and humane societies, but we do some times accept owner surrenders.
All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption to prevent the cycle of overpopulation from continuing itself. Our dogs are also vaccinated and placed on heartworm preventative if they are heartworm negative. If a dog tests positive for heartworms, it is treated before it goes to its new home. Any other physical ailments such as ear infections, mange, etc. are also treated prior to placement. We do everything within our power to ensure that the dogs we place are healthy.
We also want to ensure that our dogs are temperamentally sound, so a temperament test is performed on each dog. Dogs who do not pass our temperament test are not accepted into our program, and dogs with known bite histories are not considered for acceptance into SSRR. While our dogs are in their foster homes they are further evaluated by their foster parents. Putting dogs into foster type situations gives us a true feel for how the dog will act when it goes to its new home. Oftentimes quirks in a dog's nature will not surface until a dog gets comfortable in a home environment.
If you are interested in adopting, please visit our page of Available Dogs. Our policy requires that an Adoption Application be completed before adopting a dog. Potential adopters are required to provide a veterinarian reference as well as the names of three other people who will give a reference for them. We ask that potential adopters allow a home visit, and we prefer that the home have a fenced yard. In the event we determine the home to be a healthy and loving environment, a Rottweiler is matched with the adopter's lifestyle and family. When the adopter arrives to pick up his or her new companion from our foster home, the Adoption Contract is signed, both by SSRR and the adoptive party. SSRR does requires a donation for the adoption. SSRR's standard tax deductible donation is $250. Since SSRR is not a publically funded organization, the donation is used to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and provide medical care for future Rottweilers. Our Rottweiler Rescue is supported totally through donations and fund raising activities of the group. No tax monies support SSRR. We are organized as a nonprofit organization and have our nonprofit 501(c)(3) status, which allows for public support and guarantees any donor tax deductible benefits according to current laws.
SSRR is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. Your donation is tax deductible. All donations are used to further our rescue and educational efforts.
